about us

What we do at EOABS is provide "Basic Architectural Services" for our clients.

You may envision us as a primary care physician that addresses each patient individually and uniquely. We help you to make the best choices available to your needs, to gather the right people with right background and experience.

We are a small firm but a large bridge to valuable information.  We believe in research and development, knowledge, transparency, and cooperation.  We use the most current American Institute of Architects' contractual agreements.  This ensures accurate communication that is cooperative, transparent, and fair.  We also believe that as architects, contractors, and consultants, our stewardship is more complete when we protect our environment while searching for beauty.

Mission

We are committed in RAISING PUBLIC CONSCIOUSNESS to protect our Mother Nature. So we partner with our clients, and the people that we work. We hope our projects are proof of that commitment. Our mission is to make our today’s environmental issues to be the most important priory for Project Owners while establishing sensible design solutions for their own projects.

We take each project as another opportunity to demonstrate our commitment in dealing with our planet’s growing environmental problems. We care deeply about our projects and prioritize the emergencies of our ecosystem. We hope to inspire our clients and others to join a global effort in finding comprehensive solutions to our problems.

We think the way to solve climate related problems is “raising our consciousness” with education. We believe projects that our clients bring to us are great vehicles to do just that. Furthermore, we do not see environmental issues isolated from today’s societal problems. The “Wealth Gap” and “Income Gap” are the root cause of many problems included but not limited to  education, food security, housing, health care, sustainability, energy, and incarceration. Searching for solutions, we must be both united as "the citizens of this planet and neighbors on our block". We are out of time! We also believe technology can mobilize us in making the right steps forward, fast and furiously. We must promote simple life styles, search for new definitions for what “freedom” is all about, especially under the pressure of world’s growing population.  We should put our differences aside to be able to focus on our planet's urgent problems such as Green House effect.  We should avoid extreme point of views in politcs, and religion that could polorize our environments both at home and around the world.

Our Purpose, Values, and Evolving Principles

  • Purpose: Architecture is a balancing act through Cooperation, Research, and Optimization to create better environments that are sustainable. We think that “low embodied energy solutions” can make a big difference and it would help us to find solutions that are practical, effectively lowering our CO2 levels. We focus our attention on creating “on the spot design remedies” to adapt, evolve and reshape our environments.
  • Clear Programs & Well-fare of public: It is essential that there are well developed programs addressing specific problems before we launch a project. We believe that projects that are built without designs that do not clearly identify and address specific problems, end up creating waste, pollution, and become costly for both public and Project Owner. That is the reason that many times a feasibility study or a preliminary review often obligate us to recommend the cancelation of certain projects. No design can compete to be worthy with what our Mother Nature built for us after millions of years of “hard work.” So we are determined to protect our environment wherever we can.  We are sure as long as we do a good job in explaining to people what is at stake, we have absolute confidence that people would join us in our mission, either as client, contractor, consultant, volunteer, neighbor, friends or relatives, and helping “spreading the word.” Therefore we remain committed to protecting and improving the welfare of the public for each project as our primary responsibility.
  • Boundaries: We look at three issues carefully to make a project successful: quality, cost, and time. It is important to determine benchmarks for all three to balance their affect so they are in harmony. These three issues are in connection with each other and can push or pull a project in various directions during several phases know by the industry: Preliminary Design, Design Development, Construction Documents and Post Construction.
  • Merit-based selections: We are constantly searching for “the Best and the Brightest” available for each project. You may think us, as a primary care physician that would direct their patients to best doctors available, all to create great long-lasting cures.
  • Protocols & Agreements: We believe in good documentation for clarity, accuracy, and fairness in terms of agreements, copyrights and protocols. We review, archive, organize and improve our work constantly so we can serve better. We work with written agreements and use American Institute of Architects (AIA) flagship products that have been reviewed and updated for over 130 years. AIA’s “boilerplate documents” are available to read and study for free, although printing, editing and circulating them requires a small fee. The purpose of these documents is to assist architects and professionals in creating their agreements to become more comprehensive. They are prepared by experts with the most appropriate information depending on the “project delivery approach”. These documents outline issues relevant to the nature of the project, to the capacity of resources like money, time, and labor. A construction business is risky by nature. Therefore, these documents are also good tools to understand what course of actions one has to take during an unexpected outcome. These documents offer checklists, as well as reminders. They are also important source by being historically “tried and tested” methods. They are inexpensive tools for architects, builders, consultants relative to the importance of information that they offer. Without these documents it can take forever or become impossible to do quality work. Agreements or contracts are not only great for protecting parties’ rights, but they also set the stage for cooperation to build the foundations of solid relationships. Without them, an architect is like a pilot without checklist prior to a long flight in a war zone.
  • Profit vs Public Service: Profit may seem to be the most important for client and builder, but it is not for us. This is the main reason, even though we value their work, we are often reluctant to do work with flippers, realtors, design builders that are only interested in the profitability. At the same time, we are open putting people first and supporting projects that have simple and effective solutions, especially when they provide for people’s basic needs.  We are here to help the poor and needy as well.
  • Respect with Integrity: We strive to be transparent while respecting other professionals in terms of their privacy, and expertise. We work with team members and partners including code officials with integrity, and work to create good and long-lasting relationships.
  • Layered doesn’t mean Complicated: Building techniques are widely repeated disciplines for architectural work that come with many layers.  We believe “layered work” should not be perceived to be “complicated” by our clients and others.
  • Time Pressure: We avoid the “possible time pressure” generated by our prospective clients, with our commitment to do the “right thing” for the project with our “first thing first” attitude.
  • Right Costly, Wrong Deadly: We believe the price for good Professional Service varies tremendously. It is important to remember that a wrongdoing or compromise is often more costly than what is saved on Professional Fees.  We are fully aware that the increasing emergency of climate related issues obligate all of us to be more careful and responsible than ever before.
  • Our stewardship: We follow current “Codes and Regulations.” These are not perfect and could be difficult to apply. However, their intentions are quite clear, and they are important for all of us. There are times code officials’ leniency becomes a “safe harbor” for opportunistic clients and contractors during permit applications. We will not let Client, or any other party assume that a Code Official is above the “Designer-On-Record.” So, project applications that are approved by code officials or government entities must also be “approved” by our firm.
  • Cost and budgeting for client, and the rest of us: We analyze the Project Budget for the short and long haul implications with First-Cost, Maintenance, Routine Expenses and Contingencies as a whole. We search for the right “Materials and Methods.” We see environmental issues as our shared responsibility for each and every project along with budgeting.

Inquiry with instruction for our potential clients

Answering the following questions would be helpful to serve you better.

1. What best describes your role in this project?  (Please indicate below if you hold more than one role in the project)

a) Owner(s)

b) Contractor

c) Investor(s)

d) Other (please explain)

2. (Y/N)  Are you the sole owner of this property?

Please know Wisconsin is a community property state, which means that Wisconsin courts divide marital property equally between divorcing spouses.  We advise you to indicate if you officially or unofficially represent an entity for this project.  It is also important to remember heirs are usually the future owners of a property.

3. (Y/N) Have you used an Architect for this or another project?  (Please explain with a few sentences) Please know that sharing some intellectual properties, architectural drawings, contracts, photos, or pictures without consent is against to law.

4. (Y/N)  Do you have credentials to prove that you are financially capable of undertaking the cost of this project?  Please know the design fees are a fraction of the total project cost, but they may save you time and money in the long run.  Initiating the design phase of a project may be important in generating a realistic project budget.

5. (Y/N)  Do you have an Architectural Program?  An Architectural Program is an itemized description of expectations for the design of the project and it is often submitted by the Client to the Architect; however, occasionally, client may ask architects to create their project's Architectural Program.
